Thanks again to the generosity and efforts of club president Eddie Williams and many others, the Rotary club was able to fund the installation of a brand new shade structure on the face of one of the campus’ most publicly-used buildings, the NyECC Activities Center.

President Ed had two options in choosing the President Project for his 2022-2023 Term: 1)build a pergola in Trojan park, which is located behind Nye Coalition but had little public use or 2) build shade cover over entrance to Nye Activities Center which is used by multiple organizations constantly. 

The new shade structure chosen was the President’s Project for Eddie and his 2022-2023 term, it was a project that he was more than happy to push forward and it will now provide a much-needed sun shelter for those utilizing the Activities Center. Stacy Smith, NyECC chief executive officer, was really excited about the project because it provides the shade and safety for people who are out here, especially when lining up events and it gives them a visual cue that says, ‘This is the entrance.’

Pres Ed and The Pahrump Valley Rotary members fundraising efforts included making flyers describing the cover  and going to local businesses soliciting funds, which included VEA. Valley Electric Association later reached out to Williams to connect him with one of the co-op’s charitable foundation programs, which resulted in a $6,000 donation to the project by VEA.

 The process was started in October last year and completed in this April with a dedication ceremony on April 11, 2023.
