President Ed has once again brought a top notch program to the Pahrump Valley Rotary Club. Thru his efforts the Rotary Club was treated to a tour of one those gems in the Pahrump Valley that may not be well known but provides an educational service not found in many locations. The Great Basin College was founded in 1967 and has established itself as a fully accredited college currently with over 3500 students specializing in many discipline but considers itself having a top of the line Nursing degree program.
Our tour began with Academic Advisor Amanda Sprayberry with her assistant Courtney Rohleder giving an overview of GBC and then a tour of the nursing facility and training classrooms. These included initial training room where students learn the basics in nursing, followed by virtual instruction via manikins controlled by professors to simulate actual nursing conditions in a hospital. We than visited the Biology lab and finally we were enlightenment by David Hernandez, Computer technician Specialist, demonstrating the latest technology of a 3D surgery table used to learn about all aspects of the human body and its surgery simulations. Our final stop was in the expansive computer area.
Thanks goes to Pres Ed and Great Basin College for making this tour available to the Pahrump Valley Rotary in a very short period of time. Enjoy the photos.
